Michigan's Broadband Development Authority has been such a success at disposing with taxpayer dollars with nothing to show for it that there are calls to shut it down. The Authority is $10 million in the red, and sees no prospects to break even for many years.

I know that it is astounding that a government agency might make loans less responsibly than private capital markets, and that the benificence of good intentions cannot overcome the economic and technological challenges of investing in broadband. I am sure that the next government foray into broadband will finally be the success that all the advocates have been waiting for.
